The WoW Wrap Up

Writer's picture: Scott BelchakScott Belchak

What a weekend it was at the WOW - Wasatch Over Wasatch Fundraiser Disc Golf Tournament! The disc golf community came together for two action-packed days of excitement and camaraderie at Wasatch Mountain State Park.

Players of all ages, from kids to seasoned pros, showed off their skills and love for the sport. The competition was fierce, and we witnessed some jaw-dropping moments on the course, including two aces!

Tongia Vakaafi aced hole 7, and Creech hit the bullseye on hole 8 with epic shots. NICE SHOT! (although neither of which bought into the ace pot.......)

But the thrill didn't stop there. J.D. Poulsen was on fire, winning the Closest to Pin (CTP) contest on both days on holes 14 and 5. He walked away with a well-deserved $385 prize.

The WOW tournament wasn't just about competition; it was about giving back too. Thanks to the non-profit's efforts, the generosity of MVP Disc Sports and the tremendous support from participants, we raised a whopping $9,902 for the project and for ElevateUT Disc Golf's mission to increase disc golf courses in the area.

Jarom Brown was the lucky raffle winner, snagging an MVP Rover Cart, 13 awesome discs, a bag, and an MVP Basket. After consideration, tournament staff decided to redo the draw. View the video below.

HUGE SHOUTOUT TO MVP DISC SPORTS. They donated all the player packs and the Raffle Items. Without them, this would not have been possible.

The event was a testament to the spirit of outdoor adventure, the joy of community, and the incredible beauty of the natural world. But let's not forget to acknowledge the remarkable disc golfers who took home the hot round trophies:

  • MPO: Ben Lemon with a -10 (Casey Lee tied for first -- tie breaker rule in effect as Ben Lemon had the most charitable giving during registration)

  • MP40: Trevan Allison with a -7

  • MP50: Brandon Gregerson with a -3

  • MA1: Josh Massey with a -8

  • MA40: Brodie Duncan with even par

  • MA50: Gregg Davis with even par

  • MA2: Darin Hamblin with a -3

  • FA2: Lisa Aun with a +11

  • MA3: With a tie between Mike Myers, Garrett Marshall, and Michael Haupt. No tie-breaker rules were triggered, so whoever makes the largest donation to the non-profit receives the trophy!

  • Juniors: Desmond Featherstone with a +31

For the winners of the hot round trophies and the raffle, you can collect your prizes during player check-in at upcoming events like the Creekside Open Presented by MVP Disc Sports, Utah State Championship Preented by MVP Disc Sports, or Wunderfall.

We're immensely grateful to everyone who made this event rock - players, volunteers, organizers, sponsors, MVP Disc Sports and Wasatch Mountain State Park management. Your support made the fundraising efforts a tremendous success, and we're stoked to see the disc golf community continue to grow and thrive.

A huge shoutout to the following people: Sean Kelley, Brandon Gregerson, Chaz Critchfield, Bobby Grieve, Jason Jumbelic, Marlton and Janna Booth, Doctor Jones and Doctor Jones Junior, Trevan Allison, Jaxon Petersberger, Mike Cummings for coming out to help set the course up and get it ready for you all. Henry Jones made the trophies. Huge shoutout to Kieran Buhler for killing it as assistant T.D.

But wait, there's more! The course will be up for one more weekend and will be removed on Thursday, August 10th. So mark your calendars and join us for $15 all-in doubles at 5 PM on the next two Wednesdays. It's another opportunity to have a blast on the course and make more incredible memories before the temporary setup is taken down.

If you play, there is a pay booth that you can put $10/cash in an envelope. Please write "DISC GOLF" on the envelope so that they can track play.

In order to further make the case for the WOW, please take a moment to fill out the brief survey.

Until the next WOW event, let's keep hiking, throwing frisbees, and basking in the wonders of the great outdoors together. Remember, disc golf is just hiking while you're having a blast flinging those frisbees! See you on the course!
